Catfish is really a diverse group of fish that contain a wide range of various species. Catfish species live in freshwater and are found all over the world, on every single continent except for Antarctica. You can find also a couple of catfish species that live in saltwater. Most catfish are tiny in size, about ten to fifteen pounds, and are easily manageable. But some catfish can grow to be quite huge and old, giving anglers a tough fight.

A catfish may be recognized by its prominent barbells. The barbells are elongated tactile organs that are located close to the mouth, and are very comparable to the whiskers on a cat. Just like a cat’s whiskers, the barbells are utilised to screen the environment and heighten the animal’s awareness of its surroundings. Unlike cat whiskers, catfish barbells are equipped with taste buds that they use to catch fish in dark and cloudy waters when there’s low visibility.

Catfish also have a hollow leading ray on their dorsal and pectoral fins. This leading ray is extremely powerful, along with the catfish can use it to excrete a potent protein when it becomes frightened or annoyed. This protein stings. Some catfish species have a protein which is strong sufficient to injure a human. A person that has received a sting from 1 of these species may possibly call for hospital care. 1 catfish species, the Electric Catfish, are without having this hollow leading ray and incapable of protein attacks. Instead, Electric Catfish are capable of sending out a severe electric shock of up to 350 volts.

If you desire to try a diverse way to catch catfish and you might be up for a challenge, leave your rod and reel behind and go noodling. When utilized by native Americans, noodling caught on as a fishing method throughout the Depression, and later became a sport. The first component of noodling entails spotting the areas where catfish are bound to be present, such as submerged shallow logs, rocks, along with other surface functions. Noodling is generally accomplished in water shallow sufficient for simple wading. A noodler will also have a team of spotters with them to support.

When a prospective catfish hiding spot is located, a stick is inserted into the hole to make positive that the inhabitant is often a catfish, and not a snake or a turtle. The noodler will then put a hand inside the hole – basically, employing their own hand as bait. Being threatened, the catfish will attack and bite the hand. When it bites, it holds on to the hand, allowing the noodler to pull it out. When the noodler gets the fish out of the water, the spotters immediately remove the fish from the noodler’s hand and throw it into an accompanying boat. It can be the spotters’ job to aid the noodler in case the fish is too heavy or the fish starts to pull the noodler into the water. Catfish can grow very large and are capable of drowning a human in this way — creating the sport of noodling thrilling for some.

Something very strange happened yesterday (13/01/2011). Was upstairs in my room sleeping and my second son was in his room. I heard a big bang and the next thing I know i heard what sounded like two guys running up the stairs shouting “police, police”.

As I came out of my room, my second son had also heard the commotion and got out of his room. The guys saw him and I later learnt he said toy son something like”it’s my man” and they both ran down and out of the house.

I say this is strange because it does look as these guys did not come to steal. They did not spend any time at all downstairs. They came upstairs as soon as they entered the house and headed straight for my sons’ bedroom.

Question is: had they come for my elder son or me?

I’ve reported to the police and awaiting updates.

Strange!

Today was a very strange day. First I attended an interview last week for a very interesting role with a major player in the transport industry. The role was expected to start very quickly and the interview was simply brilliant. I was therefore surprised when I had not heard from them after three days. On the next Tuesday after the interview, still no call or email. I just knew the role had not been given to me. The letter then came this morning to confirm what I already suspected.

Before then, earlier today I had sent an email to my contact in the finance team of one of my customers on the status of a purchase order I had been chasing. She confirmed the PO had been raised and awaiting authorisation. This made me very happy because it was now a question of “when” and not “if”. Also this morning, I was on my iPhone going through the Affirmations App and I came across “I have the courage to have a vision and take steps tirades it”. So when the letter of the interview came, I felt ok. “Nothing spoil” as we say in Nigeria.

You may wonder what the story is. Well it’s all about being self employed. The keywords in this post are courage, vision and action (follow through).

It’s that time of the year again, planning for university admissions. My two boys are going in this year, both going for a degree in computing science.

Last night, I laid down the two main rules:
1. University choices have to be outside Birmingham so they can live on their own and learn to take care of themselves.
2. They need to make a minimum of 320 UCAS points to even have a chance with some of the best universities in the country.

Well, both points were greeted with silence. I felt sorry for them but had to be done.

This simply highlights the fact that no matter how tough Kidd act, when the reality of leaving home hits, it’s always a daunting prospect.

I would have given anything to know what was going through their minds that very time.

I was searching for something on Google (can’t quite
remember what it was now) and stumbled on Crysfel Villa’s blog
(http://www.crysfel.com)
where he had posted his goals for 2011. It was written in Spanish
but it caught my eye. I translated it and I was even more
fascinated by the fact that, at the end, he urged everyone who read
this to do the same. Crysfel wrote (rough translation):
“I firmly believe that a life without objectives or goals
doesn’t make much sense. If you do not define a target or goal, you
never know where you are going and your life is more like
adrift at sea “. I could not agree more. As a project
manager who has run some very large transformation and change
management programmes, I know how difficult it could be to operate
with clearly defined goals supported by a plan. I must confess I’ve
never really been one for New Year resolutions. But, in the past
few years, I seem to have taken up so much in my personal and
business life that I can no longer simply try to “run things from
my head”, without having clearly defined and measurable objectives.
In the light of this, and following Crysfel’s example, I have set
out below, two simple groups of goals for 2011, one personal and
the other for my business. Business
Goals

Online
Business Service (http://o-bs.net) is an Xsell
Consult workbench, where we offer a web based accounting software.
My target for 2011 is to sign up 10 new Gold members and 2 new
Umbrella companies.

Afric IT (http://africit.com) is a
new company formed late 2010 to offer technology solutions and
services as well as training to businesses in UK and Africa.
My goal for Afric IT is to run three training programmes here
in UK for African businesses with at least 10 delegates each time.
I will also complete one major transformation project in
Africa.

Oriona Group (http://orionagroup.com)
is my primary business. Apart from contracting personally through
this company, I also offer internet consultancy, internet marketing
and web hosting through this company. My goals for Oriona Group for
2011 include:

Be in contract for at least 8
months of the year

Register 20 new client
domains which may include hosting

Complete
at least 2 major web development projects

Buy an iPad. With everything that
is going on, I need to be more in control of my affairs with
everything at my fingertips. I believe the iPad will solve this
problem for me.

Personal
Goals

Go to
Nigeria at least twice.

Move to a new
house.

Pay for family to visit the US in
summer

Junior and Ik get into
university

Ada graduate from
University

Sort out Ada post
graduation

Buy family car

Support more charities

Training in
internet marketing

Be a beacon of hope to
those less fortunate than myself

 With
these goals in mind I now know to where I am and where I want to be
by end of 2011. I should now be able to evaluate myself at the end
of the year and analyse my successes and failures. I hope that this
2011 is a year of many blessings for all, and whatever happens
remember that God is on our side.
